Desarrollo y Sociedad (Development and Society) Journal is a publication of the Center for Economic Development Studies (CEDE) at the Universidad de los Andes, Colombia.

The CEDE was founded on September 1, 1958, as part of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Los Andes. Its objective is the research related to economic and social development of Colombia. The center plays an active role in organizing and participating in meetings and seminars such as those of LACEA (Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association) and the Research Network of the IDB (Inter-American Development Bank), among others.

One of the purposes of CEDE is to disseminate the work done by its researchers and in general contribute to the dissemination of scholarly works of Colombian and foreign economists. To achieve this purpose it edits, along with other publications, the journal Desarrollo y Sociedad.

Desarrollo y Sociedad is one of the oldest journals in economics from Colombia. Its first volume was published in 1979. The journal publishes original papers related to the economic and social development in Latin America. It also considers contributions in the fields of economic theory, applied economics and quantitative methods. The journal gives priority to the publication of studies on the Colombian and Latin American reality.

Desarrollo y Sociedad is aimed at economists, practitioners and researchers in other areas of knowledge that are related or linked to the economic and social sciences. Currently, the editions of the journal are defined on the basis of thematic criteria with the aim of developing topics in a broad area of economic importance.

Desarrollo y Sociedad is published biannually and is included in LatAm-Studies Full Text.
